Global Imports ( or Snooze you lose )
Global Imports is a large store on Sandlake road, not far from the location of most of the homes, just past the entrance to the Florida Mall on the right and near the large Target. If you are looking for a shop that is a bit unusual this is the one to visit.
Previously and aptly named as Snooze you lose, I preferred this name as is quite rightly described exactly the sort of shop it was (I will explain all later!)
The goods there are totally unique to the shop and you will find things there that can’t be found anywhere else, these range from strange pictures, furniture that looks like they have been taken from Dracula’s castle, to more modern things that are really worth having like china, vases, occasional tables and pictures. The last visit we made here we found life size figures of the Blues brothers and Marilyn Munroe and alligator waiters carrying trays.
They had some lovely china, vases and ornaments and if you are looking for that special gift that is a little bit different to the norm here is the place to find it.
I will now try to explain why it was called snooze you lose!
All goods are labeled with not just a price but a series of dates, the first date is the date the item came into the shop and the first price, if the item is not bought within a month the price decreases 10% this happens for 6 consecutive months until on the 6th and final month if the item is not bought it is given to charity where it is then auctioned off. So you see the idea is to either pay the first price that is on the ticket or chance leaving it for a month so that the price will go down 10%, in which case someone else might come into the shop and buy it, or indeed dare you leave it for 6 months when the price would then be 60% cheaper? Snooze you lose, buy it when it is the top price or snooze a while and risk losing it?? Great idea don’t you think?
It was then taken over by Global Imports and although the pricing and system is the same as it was then and there are still the same “snooze you lose “banners up it has lost that amusing name!
So if you don’t visit often and are not prepared to risk losing your purchase don’t “snooze “ pop in a buy it !!
