Gatwick - Park or Stay?
Because we live a fair way away in Norfolk, to travel down to Gatwick the same day we are flying is such a tire and we would have to leave at a really early hour of the morning we now always travel down the night before.
If you are flying with Virgin this enables you to take advantage of the Twilight check in available from 3.00pm up to 9.00pm in the evening the queues are so much smaller and you then get rid of your cases , get your seats sorted and are given your boarding card . You can then arrive at the airport the next morning feeling refreshed having had a good nights sleep and ready for the long flight ahead of you, bypassing the long queues that are usually there at that time of the morning.
In past years we have always booked the parking facilities available and left the car ready to collect on our return then be transported to the airport usually by a shuttle bus owned by the parking company. This for people who live close enough to do this is fine , but for us staying the night before is now a much better option. The cost for doing this is also the same as having just the parking.
We have found an excellent little guest house ( of which it has to be said there are many ! ) where after doing the Twilight check at the airport we drive to no more than 5 minute away, check in, we are given our room , usually a very comfortable en-suite room with tea and coffee making facilities and then walk down to one of the two nice little pubs that are nearby, have a meal, a drink and relax and chat about our forthcoming trip and what we are planning when we arrive at our favourite place - Orlando.
This is such a pleasant way to start our holiday without all the stress, rush and worry. The car is safe and sound for the duration of our stay and we can get up at a more sociable hour in the morning have a nice breakfast and then a taxi is provided to take us to the airport in plenty of time. We can browse a few shops get the duty free and head straight for the departure lounge.
On our return once into Gatwick airport we get a taxi back to the guest house , pick up the car and off we drive back to good old Norfolk. What could be better than that …………..living in Orlando would certainly be better !!!! but that’s another story.
