Flying Unicorn - IOA
As the Flying Unicorn, which is in the Lost Continent, is a little out of the way, be sure you look to your right just before crossing the bridge to enter Jurassic Park. It is located just pass Dueling Dragons.
If you have a Universal Express Pass you may want to take advantage of it here. We do not have one of these but have never had to wait too long.
The Flying Unicorn takes the young and young-at-heart on an exhilarating coaster ride through an enchanted forest. It is has been designed to maximize the fun for younger children whilst making it easy for parents to get involved in the action.
Guests between 36" and 48" must be accompanied by and adult. Wheelchair users must be able to transfer to the ride vehicle’ s seating. The seats in the ride vehicle are in twos with eight rows.
Electronic lockers located near Dueling Dragons are available free of charge for the first hour of use so you can stow loose items and bags. I know some rides no longer let you ride with bags and insist you put them in lockers.
You walk though the Enchanted Forest to reach the shingled shack that serves as the ride station. It is a family-friendly coaster and is really for those guests who are not quite ready for Dueling Dragons and The Hulk. Your unicorn will slowly climb the hill to the first drop and after that speed through a series of the dips and turns. The unicorn-shaped cars reach a top speed of 23 mph and a top height of 40 feet. As the Flying Unicorn is a short ride, so you may want to consider that if the queue is long.
All our family enjoy this ride with the exception of my Mother who has still to pluck up courage to go on it!
You will have to look carefully to see characters near this ride although we have seen Merlin the Wizard wandering around in this area.
Last time we went on the Flying Unicorn we had a meal at the Mythos Restaurant. This is an award-winning full service restaurant and we would recommend it not only for its food but also for its décor. It is open for both lunch and dinner and reservations are advisable at busy periods.
You eat inside the cave-like restaurant or outside on the patio that overlooks the inland waterway with great views of Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park. When we went we had salads, steak and pasta and everyone really enjoyed their food.
