Flying into Sanford Airport
You may see that flights from the UK to Orlando do not all fly into Orlando International Airport. The majority of charter flights will land at Sanford International Airport.
Sanford International is about thirty minutes drive further away from Kissimmee than Orlando International, but in our opinion it is a far easier and quicker airport to pass through.
We have just returned from Orlando and had no problems whatsoever both in and out of Sanford.
After landing we passed through Immigration, no hold ups with plenty of desks open. From here we were directed to baggage reclaim. After a slight wait the bags came sailing through, without any hassle at all.
It was now on to car hire. We had pre registered with Budget Car Hire, from the UK, prior to travel. There was no queue at all and, as we had pre registered, the keys were waiting for us with no further forms to fill in, just the required credit card swipe, and a quick check of the lead driver’s licence.
The car was just along the road on the ground floor of the multi storey car park, about fifty yards from the car hire desk in the terminal building. It was very easy to find in a separate Budget area, in its own numbered bay.
Within half hour of landing we were driving out of the airport. This is far quicker than Orlando International Airport. So the time you loose in travelling the further distance is more than made up by the speed you get through Sanford Airport.
On our return, there was no problem in returning the car to one of the Budget bays, writing down the mileage and dropping the keys back to the Budget desk on the way to flight check in.
If you want a bit of extra comfort at the airport, we recommend you use the Royal Palm Lounge. It cost $25. 00 per person. For this you get use of a very comfortable lounge, with a bar (two complimentary drinks are included in the entrance price). There is also a TV lounge, a small theatre area showing DVDs, a computer games room for the kids and the young at heart. A bank of computers for access to the Internet is available in a separate room. The lounge is also set up for wireless Internet, so if you have your laptop you can go on line. Included in the price is a range of light snacks (biscuits and crisps) with plenty on tea, coffee and soft drinks for you to help yourself to.
Do not be put off by Sanford Airport; we prefer it to Orlando International Airport.
