Florida's Space Coast
Florida’s Space Coast, primarily comprises of such cities as Titusville, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne and Palm Bay. Located just 35 miles east of the Orlando theme park attractions, you'll find 72 miles of pristine sandy Atlantic beaches known as Florida's Space Coast.
Recognized as one of the most excellent surfing destinations on the east coast, Florida's Space Coast is home to notable wave-riding professionals, including seven-time world surfing champion, Kelly Slater. An abundance of water sports is also available along this eastern coast. If you want to spend time at the beach, this is the place to visit. Cocoa Beach is renowned for its beauty and easily accessible from Orlando. The endless beaches are tempting year round with warm Southern waters and an average daytime temperature of 73° F.
Some of the best Deep Sea Fishing offered in this country is available here. Licensed, insured and experienced captains will put you on the fish! They know the local waters and will help catch that big one! Few places in the world offer the variety of species found here. From big bass and crappie on the St. Johns River to giant redfish, trout and snook on the Indian River Lagoon to exciting billfish action offshore in the Atlantic, it’s hard to beat.
Port Canaveral, a cruise, recreation, and entertainment mecca, is located 55 miles east of Orlando. Luxury cruise liners provide a variety of 2-7 day cruises to the Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean with ships entering and leaving every day.
The technology of tomorrow awaits you at the 140,000 acre Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which features actual launch pads, space shuttles and a rocket garden with a collection of aerospace originals. The U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame is nearby and showcases the first galactic American Explorers. The B.C.C. Astronaut Memorial Planetarium and Planetary, which has been acknowledged as the best in the world, and the U.S. Space Walk of Fame and Camp KSC, a week long program at the Kennedy Space Center are right here. The camp is designed to immerse youth in motion based simulators, space mission training, interactive learning and space science and interaction with astronauts.
There is also a free 220 Square mile Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, home to federally endangered species, such as the Western Indian manatee, southern bald eagle and Atlantic loggerhead turtle. The Archie Carr National Park is the largest sea turtle nesting area in America and Turkey Creek Sanctuary is one of Florida’s Audubon parks featuring natural attractions.
If you enjoy shopping, Main Street Titusville, Historic Cocoa Village and Downtown Melbourne offer historic settings. Not far from Orlando and well worth the visit!
