Florida Guide > Places to Visit
Florida the ultimate getaway.
Why is vacationing in Florida considered the ultimate getaway? There truly is something for everyone to enjoy. If you are a history buff, then traveling to St. Augustine, Florida would be a great place to start. As the oldest City in the continental United States founded in 1565, it has numerous cultural points of interest.
Castillo de San Marcos, the oldest masonry Fort, is a great place to venture away from reality and go back to the time of Spanish Florida. You can explore this massive fort, taking in its breathtaking views while diving deep into culture.
If you are fascinated by lighthouses, the St. Augustine Lighthouse is a must-see attraction just a short drive from the historic district. Climbing the 212 steps leads you to a stunning panoramic view on the intercoastal waterway. One more historic gem to explore would be, Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine, known as America’s first parish, it is a picturesque example of 18th century architecture.
If sports is more your fancy, Florida has a variety of events to fulfill your need for action.
Daytona Beach is all about need for speed. This city is known for its motorsports, including an abundant amount of auto and motorcycle racing events. Events are held at various times of the year, Daytona International Speedway, including bike week, and is one of the most celebrated races, the Daytona 500.
If you want a change of scenery, get away from the high speed action and venture off to a serene Lake, an inshore saltwater, or offshore saltwater for some quality fishing. Florida has a well-established network of charter operations; You could even rent your own Boat.
(Both fresh and saltwater fishing require licenses, ) so make sure you purchase the required documents to have a relaxing fishing adventure. Another sport that is very popular here in Florida is golfing. It has been said that there are more golf courses in Florida than in any other state, over 1, 400 to choose from. The Cities with the most golf courses include Naples, Fort Myers, and Orlando. My favorite destination for golfing is the Marco Island – Naples area, which currently has over 40 golf courses. The La Playa Beach and Golf resort has the most luxurious grounds i’ve ever seen. While you are on the green, if the rest of your party is not interested in golf, there are miles of beautiful gulf coast beaches for the whole family to enjoy. Florida’s Gulf coast has the best locations for those who enjoy strolling along gorgeous white beaches or just relaxing on a beach chair catching a little of the warm sunshine. The Gulf coast of Florida is ideal for collecting shells, while the east coast is great for surfing.
If you are looking for some excitement, then Miami, Florida would be just perfect for you. It is an electrifying, vibrant city set within a lush, tropical landscape. With its strong Hispanic influence, there is a vast amount of ethnic and cultural diversity. Greater Miami has some of the hottest nightspots in the world, including the infamous South Beach. Also, if you are into the arts, Miami Beach is also famous for its Art Deco district. There are countless exquisite buildings are covered in tropical pastel colors and decorated inside and out with various Art Deco styles. After participating in these various activities, you’ll be ready for some great dining. Most restaurants in Miami offer outdoor seating so you can enjoy the lovely weather. My favorite restaurant is Da Leo Trattoria, on Lincoln Road. Their authentic Italian cuisine is a great local place, constantly filled with hip visitors and locals.
Lastly, I will tell you the best place of all to visit when in Florida. Orlando is a fantastic place to vacation, and is more than just theme parks, although they are a lot of fun. From shopping on I-drive, to the various Museums and nature preserves, there are limitless activities for anyone to enjoy. The best of all, it is centrally located to all of the previous cities and activities mentioned, creating endless opportunities for fun!
Have a great time investigation some of my recommendations.
