Playgounds
Most of the theme parks have some form of playground area. Theses are not run of the mill swings and slide type parks , more of an adventure playground for a good romp around. They are ideal for the children to work off their excess energy when yours is long gone and you are in need of a sit down an cup of tea or coffee. We always save them for the afternoon when things are busier and the queues a little longer, and it slows down the pace of the day and breaks the pattern of going from ride to ride. We always spend more time here than we intend – because everyone is happy.
Stops at the play park are ideal if you have a younger child having a nap in the stroller, but an older one who still wants to do things, or someone is minding younger children while the older ones are thrill seeking.
Beware though if you have very small children you may need to send and order child or parent in with them as they are large an disorientating with more than one exit. With bigger children arrange a meeting point , and if they have watches give them a time to come back – else it might turn into a game of hide and seek!.
In Animal Kingdom there is the Boneyard located in Dinoland USA. This is a big play area enclosed , with only one entrance and exit.. The adults tend to wait outside – unless they can’t resist!
At Islands of Adventure there is Camp Jurassic hidden in the trees near to the Jurassic Park ride. Universal Studios has Fievels Playground, close to the ET ride.
Epcot doesn’t have an outdoor play park , but on the east side of Future World you will find water squirts coming out of the sidewalk , ideal for cooling off and chilling out.
Magic Kingdom has Donald’s Boat in Toontown fair for the younger ones, or catch a raft to Town Sawyer Island and have a good explore around there . The Swiss Family Tree house is no a playground as such, as there is a set route through, but again is good for and explore.
Disney Studios has the Honey I shrunk the kids Set , ideal for the over 4s.
Outside the parks there are a few usefully placed playgrounds too. At Downtown Disney, there is the little park next to the Lego shop – with lots of Lego for model making too.
If the grown ups want to shop , why not visit the Lake Buena Vista outlets and take it in turns to mind the little ones whilst the re serious business of shopping takes place.
Finally , not everyone’s choice , but more popular the smaller you are , many McDonalds have great indoor places attached.
Wherever you choose to play - have fun!
