Florida Mall in Orlando
This has been a favourite Mall for our family for many years but now our daughters are teenagers they can shop for England.
Situated on South Orange Blossom Trail and Sandlake, it is not too far from most vacation homes. Popular with locals and holiday makers for many years this Mall has many of the well known stores. Just outside of the main Mall, in the grounds of the car park are famous stores such as Toys R Us and Pier 51 (The Pier in the UK).
The main mall itself is on one level with six departmental stores: Macys, J C Penny, Sears, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillards and Nordstrom (check to see if Macys are giving a tax discount to overseas visitors). There are electronic shops like Radioshack and Games stock. Gadget shops which we just find fascinating to walk around, look at and try out (being from England we cannot buy electrical equipment as they are 110v against our 240v) Sit in a massage chair and have your legs squeezed and your back pummelled, experience feet warming boots - just two we’ve tried! There are plenty of shoe shops to try from Sketchers to Clarks of England/Bostonian. There are plenty of clothes shops – I’ve got to know many that are ideal for teenagers – Papaya, Abercrombie, Limited Too and Aeropostale, Guess, Hot Topic, Hollister, Old Navy, Ripcurl…… There are plenty for adults too!
Build a Bear is here – great prices compared to those in the UK, and don’t forget a bear can buy a US bear passport here! KB Toys have a store here for children and there are plenty of others for adults too – jewellers, sports stores, photographic and computer stores, card and gift stores. And in the centre there’s a great colourful, candy store to tempt you.
Frequently we are there for quite a while and after a few hours busily shopping we take a break to refresh. If you’re in a rush there’s a food court offering a choice of Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Mexican, juices, ice creams, sandwiches, crepes, pizza, smoothies. It’s a very popular area so can be quite noisy. If you have more time to eat try one of the restaurants in the Mall - we enjoy a Mexican Salsa Bar (under 21’s are allowed). Some of the departmental stores have eateries and the Florida Hotel which is attached to Florida Mall has restaurants too.
