Florida Holiday May 2008
No matter how many times we visit Florida (as villa owners hopefully often) there is always something new to discover or try. Florida has so many layers I doubt we will uncover them all.
We visited Florida in April/May of this year and the temperature was in the high 80’s all of the time and touching 90 for a couple of days - Fabulous.
We had our first experience of Chilis (one of the new restaurants recently opened on Highway 27) recommended to us by our family who were holidaying with us - what a great meal, the service was quick and excellent, the food was varied and superb. The menu - as usual in Florida, far too much choice, and the price for four of us including starters, main meal and drinks a $100. 00, what more could we ask for with the dollar suiting us very well at the moment. Applebees, another restaurant on the 27 is another great deal (two for one on your drinks) again a superb menu and great value for money.
We decided to relax a lot more on this holiday, so we only chose the Sea World/Aquatica package. Sea World never fails or disappoints, there is always something new, there is some building going on at the moment, but no-one knows (or is giving away the secret) of what is being built, whatever it is, it will probably be up and running by next year.
Aquatica opened at the end of March this year and it was great, lots for the children to do, special pools with activities geared just for the little ones, the ‘big’ kids are not left out at all, great slides with twists and turns, and of course the special ride through the dolphin pool, although you go so fast it is hard to see the dolphins as you whiz past. The food and drinks are reasonably affordable, you cannot take your own refreshments in, but there is a good choice on the menu to suit all tastes. You can purchase a buffet card for approximately $20. 00 per adult and about $11. 00 or so for children, with this card you can visit the buffet restaurant as often as you wish, so great value for families with hungry children. There are two tidal pools a lazy river and a rapids river where the current just takes you along, life vests are available if you wish, and small children must wear one. There is plenty of seating for everyone, plus large and small umbrellas for shade, the ‘beach’ is great, lovely soft sand. All in all a great day out.
The 192 and Highway 27 are expanding all the time, there are lots of new restaurants and shops opening up near the Wal Mart on the 27, at Cagans Crossing (including Chilis), The ground is being broken on Highway 192 not too far away from highway 429 (just off the 27) and this is advertised as a new shopping mall, it looks as though it is going to be big, which good news for those of us who have villas on the 27.
Although they have been up and running for quite some time it was first for us when we decided to try air boat rides at Boggy Creek it was exhilarating, lasting about half an hour, the guide was excellent, very informative, stopping the boat several times near alligators, the sensation of speed is better than a ride at the theme parks, the banks and turns of the boat are very exciting, it is well worth the journey, and we saved a few dollars on the tickets by purchasing through www. themeparks. com
All in all a great relaxing holiday – Florida can be as busy or as quiet as you wish, as always the many many choices are yours.
