Florida Guide – Epcot – United Kingdom Pavilion
It’s time for castles and thatched roofs, Tudor timber houses and cobblestones, in fact it’s time to through together as many different themes as can be imagined! The United Kingdom pavilion in Epcot draws on the rich history and variety of traditions which can be found in the United Kingdom.
Like many of the pavilions it is difficult to appreciate just how much space that the pavilion takes up as you look at it from the front. On the lake side of the main road around the lagoon is the Rose and Crown pub and the Yorkshire County Fish Shop. The Rose and Crown is popular eating place and features traditional British pub food and several UK Ales, including Bass, Harp and Guiness. Surprisingly Stella Artois is features as well, which is a Belgian beer, but perhaps that reflects upon its popularity in the UK. The one thing that guests often are recommended to do for the Rose and Crown pub is to try to arrange seating on the patio to coincide with the evening fireworks, it has a tremendous viewpoint over the lake and definitely would be worth the effort to do so.
Across from the Rose & Crown, a cobbled street leads you down the main shopping area of the pavilion, with different shops running through the buildings on either side of the street. The houses are designed to mimic a typical British village, in reality though, the mix of houses found within the United Kingdom pavilion would never be found situated together as they are here. This doesn’t matter, though, this is Disney and it is all about creating the atmosphere and giving the right impression and to this extent it works perfectly.
Beyond the shopping area is a garden area with a stage for performances. As well as finding actors on the street throughout the pavilion, the British Revolution band play British rock music spanning from the 1960s through to the 1990s and cover works by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Blur and others.
Within the shops you will find a whole host of different merchandise to choose from. There is a toy shop which sells Paddington Bear items as well as other Disney merchandise, a shop for researching your last name and finding its coat of arms. The Sportsman’s Shoppe has various different soccer/football team clothing and a tea shop selling Twinnings Tea, teapots and teacups and also British sweets (candy). Often there are characters like Winnie the Pooh or Mary Poppins which you can meet in the shops as well.
