Five Guys Restaurant
For those of you who love (or hate) McDonalds or any other burger joint, you just have to visit Five Guys on your next trip to Orlando (don’t go if you have a peanut allergy).
These little gems have started popping up all over the place and are the new “place to try”. Following the history below it is nice to know that Five Guys is still a privately owned company and as yet has no plans to go public!
Five Guys started out in Washington in 1986 by four brothers (yes four not five, but be patient all will become clear). They cooked the fresh ground beef ready to order into juicy hand-formed burgers (there are no freezers in the Five Guy restaurants, nothing is ever frozen) with all the toppings and fresh but fries, fried only in peanut oil.
During the latter of the 1980s and the 1990’s the brothers perfected their system and a fifth brother was born (told you to be patient). During this time they opened up another four restaurants this time with seating options.
In 2003 the “five guys” started franchise opportunities and in little over a year and half had sold 300 units. Now they have over 1, 000 locations, which appears to be growing daily and you have to eat there to understand why.
Not for the indecisive, as there is over 250, 000 ways to order your burger at five guys. You have the choice of Hamburger, Cheese burger, bacon burger, bacon cheeseburger (and for the children and smaller appetites you can order the “little” of these options). FREE toppings include (and you can order as many as you want) Mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard, relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A1 steak sauce, BBQ sauce and hot sauce.
Five Guys has quite a simple menu and has the philosophy of focusing well on a few items. Although as well as burgers they also sell Dogs, veggie sandwiches (although note this is not a veggie burger it is just as many “veggie toppings” as requested) and off course the pure peanut oil fried fries.
The nearest Five Guys to the Davenport/Kissimmee area at the moment are:
• 1310 W Osceola Parkway, Kissimmee, DL 34741
• W Sand Lake Road and S John Young Parkway, Orlando, FL32819
However as the stores are popping up at a tremendous rate, try searching for new locations at the Five Guys Location finder at http://www. fiveguys. com/locations. aspx
