First Evening in Florida
After months of planning and anticipation we finally arrive at Orlando International Airport on the way to our villa.
Everyone is very impatient to get through immigration but unfortunately this is a process that never seems very quick. Once we get our luggage we go on the Monorail over to the main terminal and we really feel our holiday has begun. Onto the car hire which again seems to take ages but I suspect it is just our impatience.
As we travel along the 417 we marvel at the changes since our last holiday and when we turn onto the Osceola Parkway we are always thrilled to see the Mickey arches over the road.
If it is early afternoon and we do not plan to shop later we pop into Publix for a few essentials like milk bread and beer! Sometimes if we are really lively we will do a bigger shop and although it is great to get it done it when we get to our villa it is still a hassle to have to unpack the shopping as well as empty the suitcases.
How we spend our first evening varies. Sometimes we just unpack get into our swimming gear and go straight in the pool. I heard of someone once so exhausted after a long flight and so happy to have arrived that opened the pool door and just jumped straight in fully clothed! !
After a swim we will either have a take away delivered, we keep all the details of local options in a drawer for our guests or go out for a meal. If the girls are with us we tend to go for an all you can eat restaurant so they do not have to wait for their food. Years ago I remember one of them falling fast asleep head on the table in a restaurant on their first night!
If there are adults only we either go to somewhere like Millers Ale House have a beer and eat at the bar or down to Celebration. At Celebration we usually eat in the wine bar and then sit in the rocking chairs by the lake, we have to be careful not to nod off though!
If we are really energetic we go to either Downtown Disney or Citywalk. At Downtown it is enough just to wander around and choose somewhere to eat. At Citywalk we try to get a table at Bubba Gump and enjoy their fish dishes whist watching the film.
……. and so to bed and the start of another fab holiday.
