Festival of the Lion King
We had not been to this show in Animal Kingdom for a couple of years so decided on a half day visit earlier this year with friends to go and see if it lived up to our memories of it. We were not disappointed.
This is the most popular live show at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and can be found at the Campside Circle. This takes place in a huge theatre so although the queue may be long, it usually is, most people tend to get seated. The methods they use to feed people into the theatre are good as they always seem to leave some accessible seats at the end that late comers may take. They seem to let people in, space permitting, even as the show starts.
If you have a younger child who would like to take part in the show try to sit near the front. This will mean you getting to the queue fairly early and sometimes a word with the cast member who is showing you to your seats helps particularly if it is a birthday or a special occasion. The lucky children get to follow the leader around the theatre watched by their proud parents and grandparents.
The show which lasts about thirty minutes really is awesome. Although having seen it several times I still sit transfixed as the entertainers enter the theatre in a blaze of colour accompanied by fantastic music and singing. Audio-animatronic and live costumed characters are introduced on enormous moving stages and I really do think the singing in this show is as good as any Broadway show. Our youngest girl prefers the Animal Kingdom show to the one we saw in London!
You will recognize a lot of the Lion King most popular music and the crowd interaction is great throughout the show. The theatre comes alive with a mass off colour, fantastically ornate costumes with feathers and beads and the most wonderful head- dresses.
Our girls love the mad cap trampoline acrobatics that the Tumbel Monkeys do. I usually sit open mouthed trying to find out how the stilt walkers dance so effortlessly to the beat of the music.
I defy anyone not to be moved by the he spectacular finale that includes a heart-stirring rendition of the “Circle of Life”. The show is really entertaining from its imposing start to its moving finish.
However be patient as you leave as there is only one real exit so it can take some minutes for the theatre to empty.
If you go to Animal Kingdom this really is a Must See.
