My favourite golf courses in Orlando
Orlando is one of the top golfing destinations in the world. But with so many courses available choosing the right one can often be daunting. Over the last few years I have played many different courses and would like to offer you the benefit of my experiences. So before you pack up those clubs and head for the sunny climate of Florida why not take a few minutes to read about some of my favourite courses.
One of the best courses I have played on has to be Southern Dunes in Haines City. Located just 20 minutes south of Disney, this pictures course is impeccably maintained and has over 180 bunkers. Making it a very challenging course for players of all abilities. Designed by Steve Smyers and rated four and a half stars by Golf Digest, it is a superb course and a must play. Green fees are very reasonable making it excellent value for money.
If you are looking for variety then Champions Gate is a must. Choose from the National or the International. With the later offering a links style course with fast greens which are always in great condition and also the headquarters of the David Leadbetter Golf Academy On the other hand the National is more of a traditional American style course with strategically placed bunkers and water on six of the holes. Both courses were designed by Greg Norman and both come at a serious price, so be warned!
However, if you are willing to travel that little bit further afield then Orange County National is a must. With its two fantastic courses, Crooked Hat and Panther Lake, both rated four and a half stars by Golf Digest, you are spoiled for choice. Each course has something different to offer, but both are challenging in their own rights. The practice facilities will take your breath away. Well worth the extra travelling time.
A bit closer to Disney is Celebration . A short but difficult course it will delight players of all levels. Watch out for the wildlife though, especially those crocs! If you like water on your course this is a definite one for you. There is also a great golf academy with its own academy course. The only draw back is the price, so look out for the twilight times at reduced rates.
Situated in Kissimmee is Falcons Fire, designed by Rees Jones, this unique course offers golfers a fair challenge. Water is the main feature of this course, especially on the back nine holes, along with more than 125 bunkers and its excellently maintained fairways. Definitely one not to be missed.
My final course is Stonegate at Solivita, located just 20 minutes south of Disney and surrounded by wetlands and woodlands. A fairly short course with strategic lakes and streams this is a slightly easier course, but then it is also the most reasonably priced course that I have featured. Certainly excellent value for money.
There are so many great courses in Orlando that you would be hard pushed to find a bad one. I hope you have enjoyed reading about my favourite courses and hope you have as much fun playing golf in Orlando as I have.
