Explore The Magic Kingdom – a guide to the attractions
Although everybody will probably want to see The Magic Kingdom in Disney World it is doubtful it would suit older adults unless they are accompanying their Grandchildren.
Likewise, there are some attractions that have special appeal only to a few people, such as “The Hall of Presidents”. Here robotic former Presidents of the United States talk about themselves and America, probably only appreciated by Americans. One ride called Jungle Cruise is rather tame for such a high tech theme park but OK if you have plenty of time and the queues are not too long (out of season) also the Tiki birds are only mildly amusing.
Lilo and stitch is probably going to be one of the attractions that the little ones will want to go on but be warned, most of it takes place in pitch darkness with things touching the participants unexpectedly. Very scary for them and usually at least one child is taken out crying. This goes for Snow White in the Enchanted Forest as well. It is a very dark ride with hardly any Snow White and the seven dwarfs but an awful lot of the wicked witch. So quite scary.
Space Mountain is a fairly tame roller coaster compared to some in Orlando, but pretty wild anyway. In fact nothing in The Magic Kingdom will turn you upside down and defy gravity. If you can not stand steep drops (like me) then Splash Mountain has a very steep drop half way through the ride and you will get wet on this one – so not good on a chilly day – but having said that, it is a magical ride inside with all the characters singing Zip a dee doo dah. It’s a shame about the roller coaster effect really because the very young would really love it but the drop would not be safe for them.
The Country Bears Jamboree is a must for all ages. It is a show featuring robotic grizzly bears singing parodies of country songs and is very funny.
Pirates of the Carribbean speaks for itself as being the best ride in the park. Everybody has heard of this one and Cap’n Jack from the film (alias Johnny Depp) features several times along the way.
The Haunted Mansion is also very similar to Pirates and isn’t really scary at all for the little ones – the Snow White ride is much scarier – so all ages can enjoy this one.
All the rides in the Fantasy Land for the little children are fine and It’s a Small World is probably the best ride in the park for them. Micky Mouse’s area is superb for the very tiny ones – they will all love it.
All the other attractions are OK but can not be classed as “not to be missed” but if you have time then do try them all.
