Epcot – World Showcase – France

There are 11 countries in the World Showcase, France is the 9th if you are going clockwise around the lagoon.
As you enter France’s pavilion, the first thing you’ll notice apart from the Eiffel Tower are the abundance of delicate flowers and architecture reminiscent of an impressionist painting.
There is a cinema showing the Impressions de France, a French travelogue set to classical music.
There is a lovely shop, Vins de France, located between the cinema and the patisserie that sells all manor of kitchenwares, items from the Guy Buffet range, and an excellent selection of wines, both by the bottle and the glass. Whenever we go to France we always buy a glass of champagne and sit outside in the sunshine just watching the World go by, Disney may be for the children but it’s our holiday too!
Quite often while we have been sitting here we have seen displays of acrobatics from the Serveur Amusant, they very cleverly balance on towers of table and chairs. Another of our favourite street entertainers are also to be found in France, they are Imaginum, they look like stone statues until they start to move! Try standing next to them for a photo, it makes for a memorable shot for the album.
In the Plume et Palette you can indulge yourself in some designer perfume or maybe visit the Gallerie Des Halles for Parisian Impressionist souvenirs.
If you fancy something sweet why not stop off at the Boulangerie Patisserie, where you can select from many wonderful cakes and pastries as well as a good cup of coffee.
There are two excellent restaurants in France, the first is at ground level and is Les Chefs de France it is open for both lunch and dinner, and the second is set above and is called the Bistro de Paris this is only open for dinner.
Les Chefs de France serves such classics as French Onion soup, escargots and Demi poulet fermier a la broche, pommes rissolees et tomate braisee - half of a farm raised rotisserie chicken pan fried red potato and braised tomato and our teenage sons favourite Croque Monsieur!
Bistro de Paris is a more romantic setting and is lovely for a special occasion. The menu includes foie gras, pan-seared lobster, rack of lamb and my favourite Wild sea-bream roasted with saffron and served with fennel. For dessert why not try a lavender scented Crème Brulee, hot Grand Marnier soufflé or the classic Crepes Suzette.
If it’s a really special occasion treat yourself to a bottle of wonderful French champagne, you know you deserve it!
