EPCOT FOOD AND WINE FESTIVAL 2009
My parents absolutely love this event and if ever they are over at the villa when it takes place they always visit it at least once.
This seven week Festival has fabulous food from countries on 6 continents. You can enjoy the food when you visit the Marketplace before you going to the Eat to the Beat! Concerts.
There is so much to choose from with food from Ireland to South Africa as you wander the international and regional marketplaces throughout the World Showcase promenade. So much so that my parents always complain they do not know what to choose from the vast array. Added to their problem this year the tastes of Bangkok, Thailand and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil have been added to the Festival.
This year I decided to look at the 25 international marketplace kiosks that serve up tapas-sized portions of regional specialties at an average price of $2 to $5, along with recommended wines and beers before they go. My parents wanted five recommendations and this is what I came up with:
Bangkok, Thailand at the Africa Outpost. Dad loves spicy food.
Chicken and Coconut Soup, with Mushrooms, Lemongrass & Ginger
Green Papaya Salad with Shrimp
Singha Beer
New Delhi, India at the China Pavilion. Here I think they will try the Potato and Onion filled pastry while Mother will probably have wine.
Mango Lassi (Chilled Mango Yogurt Drink)
Rava Masala Dosa, Sambal (Potato and Onion filled Pastry, Sambal)
Gulab Jamun (Fried Dough in Rose Syrup with Pistachio)
Sula Vineyards Wines: Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, Kingfisher Premium Lager Beer
Cork, Ireland at United Kingdom Pavilion. Mother is half Irish and will love this food particularly the apple chutney and brown bread.
Lobster & Scallop Fisherman' s Pie
Kerrygold Cheese Selection: Aged-Irish Cheddar, Dubliner and Ivernia Cheese with Apple Chutney and Brown Bread
Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with Bailey' s Ganache
Bunratty Meade, Guinness Draught
Montreal, Canada at Canada Pavilion. I chose this because they both like salmon and also thought they would like to try a chicken sausage.
Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup
Maple Glazed Salmon with Lentil Salad
Spicy Chicken Sausage with Sweet Corn Polenta
Maple Sugar Candy
Moosehead Beer, Paul Bosc Estate Vineyard Chardonnay, Château des Charmes Riesling, Château des Charmes Vidal Icewine, St. David' s Bench Vineyard Merlot
Finally I thought they could end their evening, for obvious reasons at:
Desserts & Champagne at Showcase Plaza
Austrian Gugelhupf (Austrian Bundt Cake)
Strawberry Shortcake
Frozen Grand Marnier Parfait, Orange Coulis
Champagne Moët & Chandon Wines: Impérial, Rosé Impérial, Nectar Impérial, Nectar Impérial Rosé
I must admit I had not really appreciated how much was on offer until I started this task and the next time we visit the villa late in the year we will be sure to go ourselves to this Festival.
