Epcot Flower and Wine Festival for Children

Friends of ours have just returned from the 15th Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival and were delighted with the fun their children had when they took them there.

They initially realized there could be fun for the children when they saw a headline “Carnivorous Plants, Butterflies and Ladybugs thrill children between March 19th and June 1st”.

The whole family was delighted when at Epcot’s main entrance they saw topiaries featuring a 14-foot floral Goofy riding a 6-foot wave of flowers and plants. Mickey and Minnie topiaries also posed on a floral beach towel spread upon a sandy " beach" featuring sandcastles and palm trees.

They started their day at Garden Fun Kid Town Fair in Future World East. Here the young and the young at heart can test their skills at interactive stations.

Onto World Showcase Plaza where there was a topiary volleyball beach scene with Donald Duck and Daisy. Nearby Pluto played while Stitch played lifeguard.

At World Showcase they joined in the Kidcot Fun where at each country the children participated in creative activities linked to each country’ s culture.

Then they went onto the Growing Future Gardeners exhibit which is in the Germany Pavilion, and were surprised at how busy it was. Here the children watched as carnivorous plants ensnared their prey. The parents and children looked at the collection of gardens where they could get ideas for their own gardens. The children particularly took an interest in a pizza garden designed to produce herbs and veggies needed to make great pizzas!

Also in Germany each day there was a ladybug release where children are encouraged to participate. The one they went to was at 1pm but there was also a second release at 3pm

The children loved the butterflies so they went to Minnie’ s Magnificent Butterfly Garden (Test Track Walkway), where hundreds of butterflies live in a screened-in gazebo. Also here was Pluto’ s Play Zone with a climbing system that the children spent about half an hour using their surplus energy on.

I am not sure if you could find the times of the appearances in the Epcot Park Guide but during their visit to Epcot they saw Lady and the Tramp and Snow White and her Seven Dwarfs who stopped to sign autographs and have their pictures taken with the children.

Towards the end of the day they visited the American Pavilion where they sat and enjoyed burgers whilst the parents were listening to the Flower Power Concert series which takes place every evening during the festival.

On their way home after a lovely day they stopped at Peter Pan’ s Never Land Garden in Imagination Walkway which has a pirate ship theme. Here they had a final play in a shaded play structure amid topiaries of Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tinker Bell.
