Enjoy the pool safely
Most of us will not be used to having a pool at the back of our house and so it is very important that when you visit Florida and choose to stay in a villa that you follow the rules regarding pool safety.
Most villas in Florida will have pool and some also have Jacuzzi.
Some villas will have a pool safety fence which acts kind of like a stair gate, while other homes will have pool door alarms. This means that every door which opens onto the pool area will be alarmed and this will sound a shrill sounding alarm every time one of these doors is opened. These alarms can become annoying but must not be tampered with as this is an offence and could lead to a $5000 fine or even imprisonment. They are there for your safety and for the safety of your children.
If you notice that there is a problem i.e. the alarms do not sound then you must let the management company know immediately. Children should be supervised at all times and should never be left unattended by the pool.
Many of these pools can be heated in the winter months usually between April and November. Pool heating is usually pre ordered when you book the villa and does take a little time to heat up. It may be worth having it put on the day before your arrival to ensure it is warm enough for you. There is usually a pool cover/blanket which must be put on when you go out for the day and then overnight, this keeps the maximum amount of heat in the pool.
There are pool rules fixed to the wall in the pool area and these rules should be read and adhered to at all times. Diving in these pools is strictly prohibited.
In the summer months it is quite normal for the pools water level to run low, due to evaporation, water splashing etc…you can easily top the level up as there is usually a hose and an outside tap. The temperature of the water is usually pre set and any tampering with any of the controls is an offence.
No glass should be taken into the pool area and villas do provide outdoor crockery and glasses for your use.
I know there are an awful lot of rules to follow, most of them are just common sense and please do not let these put you off from enjoying yourself as I am sure you will.
Pools are great fun so enjoy them safely.
