Eating out in Fort Lauderdale – Part 2
If you visit Fort Lauderdale, with its spectacular Intracoastal Waterways and silvery beaches you will find plenty of places to eat – at prices to suit any pocket.
Chart House
Chart House on NE 32nd Avenue boasts a spectacular view, set as it is on the magnificent Intracoastal Waterway. One of the Landry’s chain of restaurants, this one offers seafood and succulent steaks. If you happen to be bringing your own yacht there is 300 sq ft of dock space, and 400 seats outside.
There are between 15 and 20 different types of fish available on a daily basis, including Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi, and Pan Seared Scallops. From Snapper to Swordfish, Chilean Sea Bass to Grouper, there are seafood dishes to suit all palates. Of course there is Prime Rib, New York Strip, Filet Mignon and Lobster Tail, as well as salads, mushrooms, Yukon Mashed Potatoes, Baked Potatoes, Spinach and more to accompany these entrees.
And if that doesn’t fill you up then you have to try their signature Hot Chocolate Lava Cake which is a rich chocolate cake with a molten chocolate center. Made with Godiva liqueur it is served warm with a wonderful chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream – this decadent dessert is to die for!
There is a Happy Hour on certain bar snacks from every day from 4. 00 pm to 7. 00 pm and a Happy Hour for drinks too, including cocktails, martinis and wine by the glass.
The Southport Raw Bar
Located at 1536 Cordova Rd, this is a complete contrast to Chart House. This is a really casual restaurant, which opened first in 1973. It has free docking (should you bring your yacht! ) and it overlooks the water, so you can sit on the patio and watch the sun go down over the yardarm.
As for the food, well there are clams, oysters and shrimp. Prices are amazing – Fried Shrimp Basket is $6. 50, Fried Seafood Basket with Shrimp, Clams and Scallops is $9. 50, and there are Fried Scallop Baskets at $9. 00. You can even order fish and chips and coleslaw for just $9. 50, or Fried Catfish for $8. 75.
If you don’t like fish there are the usual burgers from the grill, sandwiches, salads, hoagies and chicken wings.
And if you still have room for a dessert there is Key Lime Pie, Banana Caramel Cheesecake Pastry or Vanilla Ice Cream which is an amazing $1. 25.
There are food and drink specials during Happy Hour which is from 4 pm to 7 pm Monday to Friday, and 11 pm to close Saturday to Thursday.
