Dr Doom - A Cowards View
Dr Doom’s – Freefall a cowards view.
On our last trip to Orlando we finally managed to get to Island’s of Adventure (IoA) and what a brilliant attraction it is.
At this point I must confess, the reason it has taken so long to get to IoA is the fact I’m a coward and hate “Roller Coasters” through this is slowly changing, but not fast enough for my 9 year old daughter.
Walking to the park you can see the Dr Dooms ride from some distance and watch those helpless souls shooting up the tower and then falling back to earth repeatly, but this is where I made the first mistake and thought umm “doesn’t look to bad might have go at that”.
My next mistake was to get an express pass for the attraction as the hour of the pass had just started, so my daughter and friend plucked up the courage and went through the express pass gates.
For our youngest two children who could not ride, they have an activity area where they both made Dr Doom badges and were each given a Marvel comic for them to read.
While waiting I counted the number of times you were sent up and down and here I made the last mistake thinking that the thrill would be the coming down (how wrong was I), and thought, that’s not to fast………
When the ride starts you are raised a few feet from the ground and Dr Dooms voice booms out he needs the energy (through fear) we are about to produced to beat the Fantastic Four, quickly you are catapulted into the air which through a coward I have to be honest and say I really enjoyed, the coming down was equally as enjoyable, now remember I said I made a mistake and here it is that one second when you neither raising or falling you are almost in zero G’s was awful but brilliant all at the same time it felt like my internal organs where being re-organised for me………. needless to say I WILL be riding again.
My friend who is a bigger coward than I am loved it, as did my daughter. When we ride again we intend to ride in one of the pods which over look the park, our view was over the back of IoA and you could see for miles (when I had my eyes open) it must be better if you could see over the park from 200ft.
Dr Doom is a must, just as IoA is, and they are definitely on the agenda for next trip to Orlando.
