Downtown Disney The Market Place (Eating)
As well as all the wonderful shops in The Market Place there are also several very nice Restaurants and other good places to eat.
One of our favourites is The Rainforest Café. This is a fabulous experience in itself even before you have tried the delicious food they serve. You are best telephoning to request “priority seating” as they are always very busy, but even if you do not do this then you can just give your name and party size to the staff at the front of the restaurant who will tell you at what time to return for your meal. Give yourself plenty of time in an evening as the later you go, the longer you will have to wait. The restaurant itself is, obviously, set in a tropical rainforest. There are two sections, the Gorilla Room and the Elephant Room. The atmosphere is fantastic with the sound of birds and bats in the night sky, the trumpeting of elephants, gorillas beating their chests and every so often the lights will dim and then flicker, flashes of lightning will crack across the “sky” and you will hear the downpour of a tropical storm with the noise of the animals escalating as the storm rages around you. Luckily for all those eating there you don’t get wet! The food is delicious with a wide range to choose from and there is a good selection for the children to choose from off their own menu. All in all this is a great experience!
Another lovely place to eat is Fulton’s Crab House that is set onboard an authentic replica of a turn-of-the-century paddle boat. Again it is a good idea to reserve priority seating as this is another very popular restaurant. The food here is absolutely outstanding. All the fish is flown in fresh every day and the choice can be a little overwhelming! The service we have received here has been exemplary each time we have visited and it is somewhere that I would recommend anyone to visit. Again there is a comprehensive choice for children and all dishes are fresh, delicious and wholesome!
For a smaller meal The Earl of Sandwich is somewhere to be recommended. There is a wonderful array of sandwiches to choose from, both hot and cold, and each is made freshly for you. If your child is a little fussy (as is our son) they will also make your own variation of what you would like to eat. They also serve delicious pastries and a choice of drinks.
If you want to indulge yourself then a visit to Ghirardellis Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop is a must. Here you will find the most delicious ice-cream sundaes, milk shakes and chocolate treats you could ever desire. Very naughty but nice!!
Other places to mention are the Portobello Yacht Club that serves wonderful Italian dishes and Cap’n Jack’s Restaurant that serves a wide variety of enjoyable meals.
Afterwards, you can walk off your meal by having a lovely stroll by the lake by which Downtown Disney is set. A perfect end to a perfect day!
