Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf – Summer Course
The tale behind this wonderful miniature golf is that on a moonlit Christmas Eve Santa Claus found the ideal spot for a vacation for both himself and Mrs Claus. It turned out to be Blizzard Beach. In no time at all Santa and Mrs Claus had moved their trailer down to Florida together with their reindeer and the elves. The elves were divided into whether to build a snow or sand miniature golf course so they decided to build both.
We had already played the winter course on our previous visit to Florida so this time we decided to try the Summer course which is the more difficult of the two courses.
You are given a scorecard to record how well you all do and the par for the course is 56.
The summer course resembles a sand-covered wonderland with surfboards, a sun bathing Santa and lots of different sand sculptures. Each hole is named and there are also instructions on the best way to get your ball into the hole:
Hole 2 - ‘Peppermint Pond’ (par 4) – This hole is made to look like a small pond with the hole located at the back and you have to negotiate the various large peppermint candies that are made to look like they are floating on the pond.
Hole 5 – ‘Yule Tide Surf Boards’ (par 3) – negotiate your way round the 6 different surf boards that are sticking out of the sand
Hole 6 – ‘ It Clam Upon a Midnight Clear’ (par 4) – You need to aim to putt your ball into the clam but you have to be aware that the lids on the clams close at regular intervals
Hole 9 – (par 4) Is a beautiful sculpture of a castle but on this course it is made out of sand instead of snow on the Winter course, the same principle applies with a drawbridge rising and falling.
Hole 11 – ‘ Sandy Claus’- (par 3) don’t wake Santa from his nap just ease your ball over his lap. On this hole you find a big mound of sand with Santa’s feet out sticking out of one end and Santa’s head the other wearing of course the mandatory sunglasses.
Hole 13 – ‘Unfrosty the Snowman’ (par 3) this was my favourite hole with the hole right in front of Frosty who has already melted and now all you have left is his head and hat.
The courses are open from 10 am until 11 pm, every day of the week. The current cost is for an adult $11. 75 and children (aged 3 to 9) $9. 75 for a single round. Annual Pass holders get a 50% discount and if you play a 2nd round on the same day you also get a 50% discount. Everyone also now receives a free one Walt Disney World Miniature Golf logo golf ball for each round played.
Both of these courses will keep everyone occupied for a couple of hours and a fantastic change to the theme parks.
