Disney Shopping
Everybody wants to buy souvenirs for either themselves or for friends and family back home. Ideally they want to buy from the park they are visiting. One thing to bear in mind is that all the parks owned by Disney World, sell the same souvenirs including the shopping at Downtown Disney.
This helps if you forget to buy a particular souvenir and think you have no alternative than to re-visit that park. We often spend the last morning of our holiday shopping at the Downtown Disney area, particularly, Market Place which has a vast Disney store.
At the entrance to Magic Kingdom, there is also a vast Disney store that sells everything there that is also available at all the other stores in the park. For example, the stores at the end of most of the rides. Heading off to this store is a great idea if you find the queues too long for the rides. This would be around 11am – 4pm, which is the really busy time for rides.
The one thing to bear in mind is that the things available in the Magic Kingdom will be very expensive, especially the clothes. You should take comfort in the fact that they are really excellent quality. You can buy copies at Walmart or Target, but they will be of very poor quality and will not stand much use or washing.
So, if this is your holiday of a lifetime, I would advise you buy the real thing and not the copy. You can of course buy quite a few items at the UK Disney shops, but they will be even more expensive if you compare the exchange rate.
Some of the finest Christmas gifts can be bought at the Christmas shop in the Market Place at Downtown Disney. It is open all year round and are absolutely magical to wander around. All the Disney characters are dressed in Christmas outfits. The temptation to buy some of the very elaborate decorations is very easy, but do bear in mind that they are very fragile and you have to get them home somehow in one piece.
Apart from the obvious Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and the rest of the old favourites, there are many of the new characters, Buzz Lightyear or the Cars characters, such as Mater or Lightening McQueen.
If you go to Animal Kingdom, for example, you will be able to buy Mickey Mouse in a safari suit or in Epcot, Donald Duck dressed as a spaceman. They are all great fun. I bought myself a Winnie the Pooh stuffed toy dressed in an Eeyore suit – sad isn’t it?
Happy Shopping.
