Disney Boardwalk
The Boardwalk, close to Epcot, and signposted from within Disney World is a wonderful relaxing place to visit, particularly in the evening. It is themed on an Atlantic seaside resort from a bygone era. You can almost see the ladies in their long dresses, carrying parasols and the gentlemen in striped blazers and straw boaters strolling along the wooden pier ‘taking the air’.
Not only is there the atmospheric boardwalk but there is a beach and a hotel and a number of shops and restaurants. The buildings fitting the seaside resort theme exactly as only Disney can!!
Whilst making up your mind where to eat, you can watch the street entertainers which can include magicians, balloon sellers and mime artists.
As always with any Disney property, there is a good choice of food – our favourite being the Big River Grille & Brewing Works. This can get busy but late afternoon is a good time to visit. There’s an ESPN Club where you can watch the game whilst eating and where there are also two interactive games and entertainment centres. This place gets packed if there is a big sporting fixture on so get there early!! As you are beside the ‘ocean’ you could also sample the fish meals at the Flying Fish Café. If you just need a snack then check out the Bakery – you’ll be spoilt for choice from the cakes and pastries on offer.
To work up an appetite or maybe to work off all those calories, we can certainly recommend hiring a Surrey Bicycle and taking a turn around the boardwalk. Photo ID is needed fore hire. The bikes take up to eight people in rows of two and each person assists with the pedal power – this will get those leg muscles screaming for a rest!! The route is not flat and those slight inclines may as well be mountains!! Start laughing and you’ll be finished from making it round the course. However, time it right and you could stop to get your breath at the bridge and watch the fireworks from Epcot – bonus!!
There is a fabulous Art Deco style Dance Hall where you can dance the night away – you have to be 21 to enter. And at Jellyrolls, stamp your feet and sing along to the fantastic piano music.
There are of course the inevitable shops, a Disney store which stocks some items not available at other outlets, ESPN Club store for everything sports connected for everyone, a very smart beachwear store and even a gallery displaying stunning marine pictures and sculptures.
A visit to Epcot can include a stroll around the Boardwalk as there is access to and from the park, or simply drive along there for a very pleasant, unhurried step back in time.
