Discovery Cove - Swim With Dolphins
As Discovery Cove is very popular and there is limited capacity you need to plan and book your day well in advance. I know you can make your booking at least six months in advance but think you may be able to book even earlier than this. This is especially important if you are planning to do the Dolphin Interaction. You pre-book the interaction but the actual time of this is allocated on your arrival.
Discovery Cove is located just off I-4, near to Seaworld on the Central Florida Parkway. If you just follow the signs for Seaworld you will also see the Discovery Cove signs once you come off the I-4
Parking is free and just a short walk from the entrance. Alternatively you can drive right up to the entrance and use valet parking for a small fee I think it was about $10 last time we went.
The whole family will really enjoy this experience as the Dolphin Swim gives you a chance to talk, touch, play and swim with the gentle and exquisite bottlenose dolphins. Discovery Cove has thirty five of these amazing marine mammals.
The Dolphin Swim begins with an interactive orientation in the secluded cabanas where you see a brief video presentation on dolphin characteristics, how to use hand signals and positive reinforcement to communicate with your dolphin as well as various safety guidelines.
Next, you and your group of 6-8 guests head to Dolphin Lagoon where you go into the shallow turquoise waters to start your exclusive dolphin experience. You are allowed to meet and play with a dolphin for about thirty minutes, getting to know each other through hugs, kisses, rubdowns and, eventually you have a one-on-one swim together through the lagoon.
You can have a lovely time in the secluded Ray Lagoon and have some personal interaction with rays, who you will find are surprisingly gentle creatures. Here you also have the opportunity to snorkel, wade and play with dozens of southern and cow-nose rays. You will find them very velvety to the touch.
At the Coral Reef you can snorkel through the colourful reefs, shipwreck remains and grottos. You can spend as much time as you like coming face-to-face with countless species of exotic fish.
Make sure you visit the Aviary which towers high above water and land. This Aviary is home to more than 30 species of birds for you to mingle with, talk to; touch and you are even allowed to feed them.
The Dolphin Swim is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and your family, if you do it is something you will remember forever.
