Discovery Cove in Florida
We visited this park in September and thought it was brilliant. It is so well organised from the moment you enter. You have a photo taken and are issued with a pass to wear and keep. You are also given the time of your dolphin swim at this point.
Photos are next of your party entering the park. Then it is off for breakfast.
Breakfast is mainly pastries although there is a good selection.
first decision is swimsuit or life jacket! ! I thought the suit would be a little unforgiving but actually they are ok, maybe the black made me look slimmer! !
You are required to go to your meeting point approx 30 mins prior to the swim and are shown a video of what will happen in the pool and a few safety points.
Then it is into the pool where you are introduced to the dolphin and have quite a lot of interaction before the swim with them. You are encouraged to touch and feel the dolphin as well as kiss it. It was so good. The staff are great and really help you along. One of our group was not a confidentswimmer and they did everything they could to not make them feel ill at ease. Eventually they swam with the dolphin and it was one of the main high points of the day.
The event is recorded and at the end you go into a hut and are shown the footage. it is expensive to buy the photos and/or dvd but the quality is perfect.
The rest of the day is spent snorkelling, swimming in the pool which goes around the park and feeding the birds in the aviary. There are several areas where you can just relax as if on a sandy beach in the middle of nowhere.
Lunch and all drinks and snacks are included in the entrance price. Lunch is cafeteria style with many different meals to choose from as well as dessert! !
The day can be as long or as short as you want it to be. We had a 9. 30am swim but stayed till around 4pm. There was so much to do and see and as the weather was fabulous we just sat and relaxed. It i not as fast and furious as some of the other parks. You can take your time seeing everything.
The price does semm expensive but when you add everything up, the meals, drinks, snacks, wimsuit hire, swim with the dolphins even car park then it is not that bad value really. If you give in and buy the photos or dvd then that can add $150 easily on you bill but memories are precious.
Highly recommended.
