Dinner at Boma Restaurant AK
This is a family restaurant in Animal Kingdom Lodge that serves breakfast and dinner. It captures the vibrant life in the African marketplace and is a fun buffet restaurant where you will enjoy the African experience with its multicultural influences. In the restaurant you will find an exhibit kitchen, wood-burning grill and rotisserie.
This is an all you can eat restaurant, but unlike traditional buffet lines, where you start at one end and work your way across here the food is in ' pods' . Each pod has a selection of food and generally a chef nearby to answer questions. We found this much easier than waiting in long continuous lines.
Prices when we went were Adults - $26. 99; Children 3-9 - $12. 99
We had made a reservation about a month in advance and could only get a 9. 30pm sitting and the restaurant closes at 10. 00pm. We were worried the food would be cold and old but how wrong we were. The restaurant was still very full and the food either hot or perfectly chilled.
We were seated quite quickly which was surprising as the waiting staff were very busy. Our table was close to the buffet and our drink orders were also taken quickly. Throughout the meal our waiter was most attentive and continually cleared the table of any used plates and refilled our drinks.
The menu changes daily but when we went the salads and soups were wonderful. Between us we enjoyed Coconut Curried Chicken Soup and Carrot Ginger Soup and the latter was really excellent. Our vegetarian friend who came with us said she had the best selection of food she had ever had at a buffet meal.
There was a great choice of salads which we ate with African Bread. These included Potato Salad / Pasta Salad /Watermelon Rind Salad /Chicken Salad with Chili and my favourite Moroccan Seafood Salad a delicious mix of Couscous, mussels, scallops and shrimp. I also tried my Father’s Curry Cucumber Salad which was also good.
The girls really enjoyed the children’s section; they had Chicken Wings on that day. I mentioned to the chef that my daughter loved Chicken Fingers and five minutes later he appeared with a basket of them!
Of the main courses my Father and I liked the chicken and pork ribs best while my Mother’s favourite was the pork ribs. All the meat was perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
The desserts that day included Zebra Domes and Simba Paw Prints; I wont spoil the surprise by telling you what they are but if you dine here do try them.
