DENNY’S FAMILY DINER
Looking for a cheap but cheerful way to feed the family? Then why not head for your local Denny’s restaurant. Denny’s is a chain of no nonsense diner style restaurants and you are never too far away from one. WWW.DENNYS.COM will advise you where the nearest one is located in relation to where you are staying, you just type in your zip (post code) and it brings up your nearest branch. Hungry in the night, not a problem most are open 24 hours a day!
Occasionally we pop in for breakfast and recently introduced some friends to the delights of Denny’s BIG breakfasts. They had never been in before and boy they were impressed with the enormous menu and the size of the breakfast served.
My favourite cooked breakfast must consist of a pile of pancakes or hotcakes as the locals call them, with lashings of Maple syrup…Yummy! (Although I am normally so full up after he huge breakfast I have to doggy bag the pancakes and have them later in the day)! My absolute favourite breakfast is called the Lumberjacks Slam and consists of:
Three buttermilk pancakes
A slice of grilled honey ham
Two bacon strips
Two sausage links
Two eggs cooked however you like, poached, scrambled, fried (over easy (flipped) or sunny side up (speaks for itself but yolk side up)
Hash Browns or grits
A choice of bread, I go for English muffin as the normal bread is a bit sweet!
We like to wash our breakfast down with a Carafe of Orange Juice which is very reasonably priced. Coffee and soda come with free refills. Every taste is catered for from sweet to savoury to health conscious to not so health conscious! The full menu is shown on the website.
Our huge breakfasts, carafe of Orange juice and a coffee normally comes out at less that $20. Denny’s is never going to win a Michelin Star but you know exactly what you are getting, reasonably priced, good portions.
The service can sometimes be a bit ropey but it is all depending at what time you visit the restaurant. If you go at the weekend or a holiday it will be jam packed as it is very popular with tourists and locals alike. Kids eat free on certain nights, so obviously they are busy nights. There is also a special menu for the over 55s.
