Cruising – Oasis of the Seas
If you are considering combining a trip to that most exciting of places, Orlando, Florida, with a cruise to the Caribbean, then you have a huge choice of ships. One of the largest and newest is Royal Caribbean International’s ' Oasis of the Seas, ' which has its inaugural sailing on December 5th, 2009.
As the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world, ' Oasis of the Seas' spans 16 decks, with a gross registered tonnage of 225, 282 tons, and a length of nearly 1200 ft. She really is a leviathan of the seas. With double occupancy, this amazing ship can accommodate 5, 400 guests, in 2, 700 staterooms – of which there are 32 categories. With full capacity she is capable of accommodating 6, 300 passengers, with a crew of 2, 100. She even has retractable smoke stacks to enable her to go under bridges which cannot accommodate her full height. ' Oasis of the Seas' replaces the Freedom class, with the Genesis class of ships, and her sister ship, ' Allure of the Seas, ' makes her maiden voyage in November, 2010.
' Oasis of the Seas' was built in Finland, like most of the Royal Caribbean International’s fleet, and it was ordered in February 2006. She was delivered to her proud owners on October 28th, 2009, prior to her making her debut into Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale on November 11th. Her captain, Captain William D. Wright was at the helm as she made her Transatlantic voyage to the USA.
' Oasis of the Seas' will be named at a special naming ceremony on November 30th, and not only will she be named but there will be a one night celebration and fundraiser to benefit the ' Make-A-Wish Foundation. ' Following this she will depart for Labadee, the cruise lines private beach.
Of course, Royal Caribbean International have been at the forefront of innovation and revolution, and this ship is going to follow that trend, with its entertainment boulevard stretching nearly the length of the ship, plus a rock climbing wall, ice rink, surf simulator, cantilevered whirlpools, and a whole range of new attractions.
' Oasis of the Sea' s pioneers the concept of ‘neighbourhoods’ which comprise seven themed areas with a variety of styles and moods. These seven neighbourhoods include Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place, Youth Zone, and Pool and Sports Zone. Within these neighbourhoods passengers can experience such things as zip-lining diagonally nine-decks above an open-air atrium, an aquatic amphitheatre called Aqua Theater which is a pool by day and a fantastic waterfront theater at night, a park at sea complete with trees and plants, an original handcrafted carousel, and 28 sensational multi-storey loft suites with floor to ceiling windows.
She look utterly amazing, and I would love to sail on her.
