Cracker Barrels Specialities
We usually manage to eat at Cracker Barrel at some time during our stay at our beautiful villa, and at different times each year they introduce special menus.
Breakfast is probably one of our favourite meals at Cracker Barrel as we find it offers high quality food and excellent service, at reasonable prices.
My son’s particular favourite is their ‘Wholesome Mornin’ Sampler’ which offers freshly chopped pineapple in a low fat vanilla yogurt, topped with honey oat granola mix with almonds, plus pineapple and orange wedges. As if this isn’t enough, this is followed by two eggs cooked to order, plus either hickory smoked bacon, smoked sausage patties or turkey sausage patties. And if this does not suffice the whole is rounded off with a banana nut muffin – all for the princely sum of $6. 99. Great value.
Pancakes are a great favourite when in Florida. Momma’s Pancake Breakfast comes complete with three buttermilk pancakes, freshly cooked, with a choice of four warm fruit toppings – Golden Delicious apples, Sweet Peach, Montmorency Cherries, or Marion Blackberries – all topped with real whipped cream. Not for the diet conscious. This is accompanied by two eggs, cooked to order, and a choice of hickory smoked bacon or smoked sausage patties for just $7. 29. Of course, you can just order the pancakes.
Cracker Barrel pride themselves on their country cooking, and a new addition to the menu is their Mushroom Braised Pot Roast. Slow roasted thick cut USDA chuck beef is slow cooked in mushroom gravy, and this is then served with mashed potatoes and grilled broccoli, plus buttermilk biscuits or corn muffins. We love their freshly baked hot buttermilk biscuits and think they are the best of anywhere. Their pot roast beef just melts in the mouth as it is so tender.
But if you want a salad then there is a new ‘kid on the block. ’ Homemade Chicken Salad n’Fruit has recently been introduced, and comprises a scoop of homemade white-meat chicken salad on top of fresh greens, tossed with apple strips, chopped pecans and dried cranberries. Balsamic apple vinaigrette dressing on the side and Colby cheese wedges complete this dish.
But it doesn’t stop there – there are new puddings, too, to tempt you. The first is a scrumptious Pineapple Upside Down Cake, topped with a sugar pineapple glaze and served warm with a delicious scoop of their premium vanilla bean ice cream, which melts as you eat it. At $3. 49 it is a bargain!
To top it off, their Creamy Vanilla Warmer is vanilla flavoured coffee, with whipped cream on top and a drizzle of 100% natural syrup, amazing value at $2. 49.
Is it any surprise that you just can’t diet when you are in Florida?
