Cracker Barrel
Cracker Barrel is half store and half restaurant. The theming starts before you get in with a covered verandah with rocking chairs outside. These come in different sizes and colours and are for sale.
If your budget is running down and you want a fairly cheap meal that has fresh good quality ingredients but want some atmosphere then Cracker Barrel could be the place for you. It seems to be busy every evening and lots of families go there regularly so they must be doing something right.
One of the attractions for my husband is that they do breakfasts all day long and American breakfasts can be awesome. There is a great range of items to choose from including of course American pancakes and eggs however, you want them. If you are from the UK the bacon will not be best back as that doesn' t seem to exist out here, however, what you get is tasty. Breakfasts range in price from about $3. 50 to $8. 99 but for that you have ham and pork or steak as well as the normal breakfast fodder.
The lunch and dinner menus are vast with everything from sandwich platters, soups, “Fancy Fixin' s”, (which can include steak, meatloaf, roast beef dinner, “Salad n' such”, “Low Carb Offerings”and Cracker Barrel Specialties. You are almost bound to find something there that you will enjoy and most of the meals are under $10. for only $12. 99 you can ave a 10oz Rib Eye Steak. There is also a children' s menu so the whole family are catered for. Unusually for American Restaurants there is a substantial choice of vegetables to accompany your meal, although they do classify macaroni n' cheese as a vegetable!
We have always found the service to be good and cheerful, which is surprising when you watch how hard they have to work. We always tip well there as the bills are so small the staff don' t get much when it is a percentage of the bill. .
They are also happy to provide country-sized meals to go for parties of 6. I imagine it would feed a lot more than that though.
The store side of the store is also themed and has a range of items from speciality foods, through candles, cookies, sweets to clothes and household goods. You might just find the perfect gift to take home but the goods don' t really compare with the wonderful shopping you can find in the malls and outlet stores. We always enjoy a little browse though.
