Cracker Barrel for Breakfast.
One of our guests eats breakfast at Cracker Barrel every single day. . . . yes that is 21 consecutive Cracker Barrel breakfasts!
So we just had to try it for ourselves, didn' t we?
And sure enoutgh at 8 a. m. on the appointed morning we arrived to find the car park almost full; well they can' t all be wrong, can they?
The breakfast menu is a little daunting but in America you always look at the pancake section first and they have bacon, ham, fried apple and jam to go with them. Mmmm; fried apples and bacon I think.
The kids are normally safe with cereals and they have put together an offering of all the popular cereals with bananas, raisins and those fried apples again. This comes with a muffin; either apple bran or blueberry.
If you have grandma with you she may like the same with porage instead of cereal. They call it oatmeal so you are not confused.
My husband always goes for a traditional fry up given the choice but there is biscuits and gravy with bacon or sausage or hash brown casserole in that section.
Those who are following The Atkins diet have their own page to choose from. Eggs and Meat is 3 eggs, bacon sausage and tomato; Country Grilled Sampler (3 eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and tomato) or Double Meat (3 eggs, large sausage, large bacon and tomato) This is found on the ' Low Carb' page.
There is a run down of what they (surprisingly) call side dishes; pork chop, steak and biscuits, grits (yuk) red eyed gravy and sausage patties ( gravy for breakfast is just wrong! )
When you visit, do look out for their specials. While we were there they had the following options:
Mommas Pancake Breakfast: this was a stomach busting combination of pancakes with 4 warm fruits and whipped cream plus 2 eggs and either sausage or bacon. This was priced at $7. 99.
The other ' special' option is Wholesome Morning Sampler which is a fresh looking sundae of granola, yogurt, fresh pineapple and orange with 2 eggs, sausage or bacon. This was $6. 99.
You will want a drink along with your meal and you can start with a fresh fruit juice (grapefruit, tomato, orange or cranberry) or the children may prefer milk; especially when they realise that chilled chocolate milk is on offer.
Coffee (regular or decaf) concludes your meal nicely or you may want to try some tea (remember to ask for HOT tea! !
So all in all, a great success (but not 21 mornings running, I think! )
