CRACKER BARREL (1)
We recently, just last week infact, had dinner in Cracker Barrel located on the US 27. The restaurant is about 10 minutes from our villa and we had often driven past and mentioned we should have a meal in the restaurant one night as it was on our doorstep. We have tried the restaurant before down on the 192 with some friends last Xmas time and remembered it as good and tasty home style cooking.
We arrived around 8 pm and were shown straight to a table. The restaurant was packed out so it was good timing on out parts! We choose just a main meal as we were so hungry we wanted something substantial straight away. (This was the night we had gone to Manny’s Chophouse and it was too busy)!
I choose Meatloaf with home style gravy which is the meal I had before on the last visit and it was delicious; I choose mashed potato, broccoli and cheese casserole (veg of the day) and some coleslaw (which I never managed). Hubby, well he choose a Roast Beef Platter with mashed potato, carrots and some other veg which escapes me at the mo! Oh yes and he did manage the extra coleslaw dish I could not eat! (Each main meal normally comes with the choice of three sides and there are at least a dozen to choose from).
All this was washed down with diet coke, although they give you water if you like and have a full bar. Our waitress forgot to bring the corn bread and rolls, which we were not too fussed about as I remember having a tasting session with our friend’s last visit and deciding we were not too keen on any of the rolls!
There is also a gift store attached to al the restaurants and they sell a variety of bits and pieces mainly old style niceties. I bought some lovely Xmas decorations and a miniature cast iron Singer sewing machine with bobbins of thread, scissors, tape measure etc all in cast iron and this is the sort of gifts they sell along with some clothing , sweeties and of course their famous pies! . Regular opening hours are: Sunday to Thursday 6:00 a. m. to 10:00 p. m. Friday and Saturday 6:00 a. m. to 11:00 p. m.
So if you fancy an early breakfast it certainly meets your needs. We sometimes head over to Denny’s for breakfast which is just a little further up the road for breakfast but next time we fancy breakfast out we are off to cracker barrel. Looks as if they have a nice holiday menu coming up too!
