Downtown West Palm Beach…. Clematis street
There is really only one place to be on an evening in West Palm Beach and that is Downtown on Clemetis street.
Clematis street is the historical heart of downtown west palm beach, starting at Flagler drive on the intercostals waterway
This place comes alive as people sit on the side wall outside not only bars and restaurants but any retail outlet that affords the space to a few make do tables and chairs , to sit, drink, smoke and watch the world go by.
In a way that gives an air of ce la vie and if tomorrow does not arrive then so what.
At the junction of Clematis and narcissus kids play in the fountains that rise in jets of synchronized water from the paved area, unconcerned moms and dads recline on the benches and just talk, this scene with it’s 1940 shop and café really is laid back Florida.
At 400D Clematis the other end of the street this scene of kids, fountains and fun is a wonderful café bar the Argentinean bar, if you like your café bars neatly presented, well ordered with efficiency about them this is NOT for you. Along with a few tables and chairs on the front, step inside and you will be in an L shaped room with the bar opposite the front door you came in . As well as beer and liqueurs behind the bar, the wine is served from no particular place with empty bottles stashed below a table and cheese taken from a cabinet positioned in the seating area, various corkscrews, wine bottles, bottle holders and many more wine accouterments are for sale on various shelves.
The walls abound with art most of it abstracts in vivid reds, yellows, greens and oranges. You can imagine these pictures are painted by an angry painter, smoking, wine drinking, womanizing Argentinean artist who never gives up hope, one day he will be famous. Can recommend a merlot with Brushetta and ham panninis. A place not to be missed.
Downtown West Palm Beach is one of the trendiest places to be today as it boasts a significant history. Numerous beautifully restored historic buildings house the many restaurants, retail, shops, galleries and energetic clubs, and Thursday nights from 5. 30-9pm are especially jumping with live entertainment when Clematis street transforms into Clematis by night.
Really is a must to visit if you are traveling through these parts, highly recommended.
