Christmas in Florida
Christmas in Florida is simply magical!
If you are used to a cold Christmas season, the first thing that will appeal to you is the weather! Imagine spending Christmas Day relaxing by the pool in temperatures in the 80s! Sipping champagne in the sun, whilst thinking of those at home around the fire, when you are thinking only of applying the sun cream!
Save your Christmas present shopping for after your arrival - no point in taking gifts for the family with you! You will get so much more for your money in Florida! Maybe consider doing a ' secret Santa' - as you do need to remember that any gifts will need to be packed in the suitcase when it' s time to go home!
Plan something nice for Christmas day. How about a nice meal somewhere special. Ideas are the Peabody Hotel, Celebration Hotel or Gaylord Palms. Consider having a taxi so that everyone can relax and enjoy a drink. Surprisingly taxis are easy to arrange for Christmas day - but do book in advance.
The lead up to Christmas in Florida is magical! It seems as though every store has Christmas music and they are all decorated beautifully. In fact, Floridians know how to do decorations! Every home is decorated on the outside - try a visit to the little town of Celebration (just off the Highway 192) to see the decorated homes there - they really are superb. At Celebration, in Market Street, they have snow every night in the lead up to Christmas - on the hour! There is a Santa' s grotto at the end of Market Street, near the lake and there are also horse and trap rides.
The Disney Parks are well worth a visit - the decorations are superb! The parades have a Christmas theme - all the characters dressed in Christmas outfits and see Santa in his sleigh! As for the fireworks. . . . somehow they manage to have fireworks that make the shape of smiley faces and presents in the sky. . . . amazing! The Christmas trees are huge and fantastically decorated and lit. At Downtown Disney there is a Disney Christmas shop - why not take some tree decorations home for next year?
Probably the most strange thing about Christmas in Florida is having the Christmas decorations, Christmas songs and turkey dinner - with the sun shining! Imagine swimming in the pool on Christmas afternoon!
If your stay included New Year' s Eve the fun continues! Why not count down to midnight at Celebration or at Epcot - where there is an enhanced firework display at midnight!
All in all - Christmas in Florida is something everyone should try!
