Cherry Pocket for lunch!

Cherry Pocket restaurant is located in Lake Wales, on Lake Pierce in a fish camp. So you will guess it is casual, and it is.

But further than that I have to warn you not to turn tail and run when you approach what looks like a shack (and is unprepossessing to say the least) but inside you will find great food at a great price.

If you go for lunch there is a more limited menu than is on offer at dinner time but still enough mouth watering choices for the pickiest eater. From steak, to fish and seafood to sandwiches it is all on offer.

A simple burger will cost you less than $8 and a Louisa Crab Cake sandwich is a modest $8. 49 These come with a mound of chips, coleslaw, hush puppies and pickle. Somebody at the next table had ordered a Grooper (Grouper) sandwich which was backened grouper with lettuce, tomatoes and hazelnut dressing.

Other choices from around $8 to $15. Lots of fish and seafood and good steaks. Do not forget to ask about the daily special.

On our visit we had fish dishes that came piled high with fish, wonderful chips and sides. You would not think we had room for desserts, but we did.

These home made desserts are HUGE and you will need doggy bags. It is a good idea to order different desserts and share so you get a taste of each others. I cannot recall what they cost but somewhere around $5.

On offer the day we visited were peanut pie, key lime pie, chocolate cake, hot fudge brownie, carrot cake, and cheesecake.

They were also operating a drinks Happy Hour which gave you 2 for 1.

My top tip is to go on a day when the weather is good and you can sit outside. Here there is a good lake view and more room. You are a bit squashed inside (though that makes for good converstaion with neighbouring tables)

This restaurant will take you about half an hour from your vacation rental home but it combines well with a visit to Legoland.

Or Lake Wales itself has a lot to offer by way of museums and are galleries etc or stands on its own with beautiful lakes to wander round.
