Celebration
Disney is renown worldwide for their fantasy, the trade mark castle, the fantasia fireworks and laser shows and this is continued in the Disney town of Celebration, it’s easy to get to off the 192 where the water tower stands on the junction, and well worth a visit or two.
As you drive down the street leading into the town, you may see little girls with pigtails and gingham skirts riding their bikes up and down the clean, very clean streets, the houses tastefully painted with balustrades around the porches, these houses are all million dollar houses but are leasehold so Disney retains the rights to the land.
The town is centred around a huge lake with a children’s playing area to one side and shops and restaurants to the head, I am told that there is a pleasant walk around the lake but must admit that I haven’t yet done it. In the town there is a small cinema showing the latest films, a pub/restaurant that really is worth a visit is Celebration Town Tavern, specialising in steaks and seafood, last time I was there I had some delicious Scrod and Chips, lovely, this restaurant also features the Boston Garden offering the same food as inside the tavern but dining outside in a flowered garden. Next door is the 50’s style diner the Market Street Café where the food really is worth going back more than once, the meatloaf here is to die for, the Café D’Antonio and the Columbia restaurants can also be found here, as of yet I haven’t tried these so can’t comment personally on their food but have heard good reports. If you like sushi you can go to the Seito Japanese restaurant, they also serve classic Japanese dishes, for the kids there is Herman’s ice cream shop and the Upper Crust pizza parlour as well as many other sweet shops, craft shops and others to many to mention.
There are regular farmers markets as well as many other events held at Celebration and I would advise anyone visiting to get one of the Celebration newspapers which will give dates and times for such events. One event that I really should mention, if you are in Florida over the Christmas period, you really should pay a visit, but if you have kids, take towels and perhaps a change of clothes because, every 15 minutes the lamp posts hail snow down into the street, the kids love it.
Celebration then, a lovely little town that is well worth visiting at any time of day and at all times of the year.
