Celebration Town
Celebration is a lovely place to visit when you want a change of pace from the theme parks and more noisy and hectic activities. Head for Market Street which is set around a beautiful lake – a delightful area of shops and restaurants in the centre of Celebration.
A good time to visit is during the day so why not have a leisurely walk around the lake, enjoying the shops and general ambiance of this ‘old time’ town. Homemade ice cream is a must to try or enjoy a coffee and sit in the wooden rocking chairs which overlook Celebration Lake, letting the world drift by while you ‘people watch’. Keep a close eye on the lake to spot beautiful birds and other wildlife.
There is a fantastic choice of restaurants and there’s something for everyone. You’ll find Italian and Japanese restaurants alongside a Spanish tapas bar and a classic American diner which sells awesome milk shakes and burgers! Sherlocks is a classic English tea room where you’ll be able to enjoy a real cup of English tea with a scone or a delicious cake. There is an English telephone box right outside to add to the English theme.
You will also find a small 2 screen cinema and the famous Celebration Hotel with its vintage cars adorning the forecourt. We had breakfast here once and it was gorgeous. A real treat.
To get to Celebration from Disney Wishes Villa, drive up HW27 and then head East on the I4. Pick up the SR 417 towards the airport. Celebration is clearly signposted off this road. Follow the road into Celebration town centre and look out for the Sun Trust Bank on the left. Turn left here and park where you can. The road goes round to the right and you will find the Market Street area and the lake. Re-trace your steps when leaving Celebration as it is easy to get lost! !
Alternatively, head down HW27 to HW192 and after about 3 miles pass the hospital on the right and take the next turning on the right – Celebration Avenue.
Celebration hosts special events at holiday times throughout the year which can get quite busy. As you drive home it’s worth taking a short detour to check out the gorgeous houses along the way. What an amazing array of property from small cottages to huge mansions………unfortunately only for residents but we can dream can’t we. . .
