Cafe Tu Tu Tango
Café Tu Tu Tango, on International Drive, is a wonderful place and a fantastic eating experience, as there is always something different going on (and I don’t just mean on the menu).
The interior walls are almost completely covered with an extremely diverse display of the work of different local artists, ranging from painting to pottery and screen prints to sketches. Some of these are even available to buy if you want to take home a memory of your experience! Every evening there are local artists working in the restaurant and they are more than happy to answer questions on what they are working on. During our visit there was a sketch artist willing to draw your portrait for however much you thought it was worth! In addition to him there were two other artists using different techniques and materials to create a landscape.
As it is a tapas bar, the food comes in small portions to share - the idea being that you can order a little bit of everything that takes your fancy. The extensive menu covers a wide range of culinary delights including chicken wings, salads, stuffed mushrooms, quesadillas, satay and make your own pizza.
If you are visiting with children, the restaurant offers a painting exercise to keep them occupied. They are given a piece of paper with the outline of a well known painting and a paintbrush. All they then need to do is put water on the coloured squares at the top of the page which then miraculously turn into paint for them to use and paint their very own masterpiece!
The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, arranged in such a way to give a feeling of intimacy while at the same time giving each table its privacy. The service is excellent with the staff friendly, personable and enthusiastic. The music adds to the ambience, with different styles throughout the night.
The night we were there the artistic theme was even carried on outside the restaurant with an artist displaying his work for us to admire and purchase.
The location of the restaurant makes it a little hard to find, as it is set back a bit from the road, but it is well worth the effort. It is about a quarter of a mile north of the junction with Sand Lake Rd, on the left hand side, past Wonderworks. It is unlike any other restaurant we’ve ever visited, and definitely a place we would go back to. Not only can you have an excellent meal, but it gives you the opportunity to take home a little bit of the experience, and your children can have a piece of their own artwork to be proud of!
