Brunos Italian Restaurant
If you are staying on Highway 27 you will go past this well hidden gem everyday on your way to the parks. It is in a small strip mall on the west side of Irlo Bronson and you will recognise it by the awning that is reminiscent of the Italian flag . It has won awards for its food from locals and has been voted the best restaurant on west 192
As you enter you are greeted with distinctly Italian smells of Parmesan and a faint hint of Garlic which only serve to get the taste buds flowing.
It is simply decorated with Italian red table cloths and green seating and with the flavour of Italy style music playing gently in the back ground you are soon in the mood for the great food they serve here.
The owner remembered us from our last trip in January and was welcoming and friendly -although at times he can come across as a little brusque but that is his way and I personally prefer it to an over attentive server who asks " is everything alright for you" every few minutes.
The food is authentic Italian as are the waiters and owner and they serve a mean New York Style pizza which will serve 8 for $10. 95. But the real reason for visiting Brunos for me is the choice and flavour of the rest of the menu. It is not as extensive as the chains in the area but what it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality.
You can choose from salads with chicken tuna shrimp or the traditional antipasto for starters or try the mussels marinara -very good. If you would rather leave the protein out then you can select form a garden or Caesar salad garlic bread -with or without cheese -but as you get garlic rolls – warm and plenty of them with the entree try something else.
They offer dishes based around Chicken , veal and seafood but if you are vegetarian then do not fret there are dishes that will suit your tastes too. Try the Rigatoni Verdi. A lovely combination of oil , garlic, spinach and broccoli or the Rigatoni Pomodori Secchi, sundried tomatoes in pink sauce -delicious.
They always have a special dish on the menu. When we went it was portobello mushrooms with shrimps with pink spaghetti-a delicious blend of tomatoes and a cream sauce. There were plenty of very large shrimps and the amount of sauce was just right .
If you are unsure what to choose the try the platter selection. 4 different varieties of pasta , Lasagne, Manicotti, Cannelloni and Stuffed Shells -you won’ t be disappointed.
They make their own tiramisu and wonderful Cannoli tube-shaped shells of fried pastry filled with a sweet, creamy filling usually containing a sweetened ricotta cheese.
Brunos is a fully licensed restaurant and they are very welcoming to families -something you would expect being Italian and don’ t mind re arranging their tables to suit your group size
Brunos is an independent family owned restaurant and as such does not have the clone atmosphere that can be present with the larger chains. The waiters are friendly and offer advice if you are unsure as to what to choose. Find it on west 192 just near to the Howard Johnson hotel. As a plus they will also deliver to your villa.
