Breakfast at Perkins
Perkins was the very first place we went out to for breakfast, on our very first visit to Orlando, and I have had a soft spot for it ever since.
The service is good and the atmosphere is cosy and very family friendly. After a warm welcome at the door and being shown to your table, you are presented with a very comprehensive menu from which to choose your meal.
You may like to have eggs and bacon for breakfast – this would seem simple enough, but there are so many combinations to choose from. How do you like your eggs? Sunny side up? Over easy? Scrambled? Maybe you would prefer an omelette, in which case there are so many different ones to choose from – Granny’s Country, Country Club, Heartland or Build-Your-Own. Perhaps Eggs Benedict is your preference, in which case you can have that too. Then there is the bacon, or ham, or sausages, or bacon AND ham AND sausages. Added to the bacon and eggs you can have hash browns or corned beef hash.
Pancakes are also on offer for breakfast. These are large, fluffy, freshly made buttermilk pancakes and come in threes or fives with fruit or ice cream or syrup. The syrup is in jugs on the tables and you can help yourself from the selection (usually maple, pecan or blueberry) and spread it as liberally as you like over your pancakes.
Another possibility is the delicious French Toast which is made using a batter flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla. This is not a dish for the faint-hearted as there are five slices of toast on it! Perkins’ Waffles are lovely too and you can choose to have them plain with a dusting of sugar or with a serving of strawberry or blueberry topping.
To go with your meal you will probably want a drink, and you can choose from the usual coffees, teas and juices.
For the over 55s in your party there are smaller portions available and children are catered for too, with their own menu offering ‘Perky Bear Pancakes’, ‘Rainbow Pancakes Breakfast’, ‘City Slicker’ (eggs, bacon and hash browns) and French Toast.
So, there you have a basic guide to the delights on offer at breakfast time. My particular favourite is the Classic Egg Favourite, which is two eggs (over easy please), crispy bacon and hash browns, followed by three buttermilk pancakes with pecan syrup. The portions are very generous, of course, and I have yet to manage to eat all the pancakes!
Perkins is open all day and offers other menus as well as delicious cakes and pastries. I thoroughly recommend you to visit it at least once during your stay in Orlando.
