Bone Fish Grill

I have written many reviews for restaurants all of which I recommended highly so I feel duty bound to add balance by giving a review of the opposite.

All the restaurants I have been to from time to time have made mistakes; steak over-cooked, grilled fish cold, ingredients missing, all of these have been corrected immediately and not charged for by the restaurant concerned. We all make mistakes and how they are rectified is what makes a good restaurant.

At the Bone Fish Grill, new on H192 near the junction of H27, we were excited to try a new fish restaurant, there are not too many in Orlando and our daughter-in-law is a vegetarian who only eats fish and is visiting with us next year.

Everything looked nice when we arrived and we were shown to our table and given the menus. Our waitress was very helpful, as usual, and she was very prompt in taking our order for drinks, delivering them and taking our order for the meal. I am not over-keen on fish so ordered a chicken dish which was fine. My husband ordered grilled rainbow trout.

The first shock came when he was not given a whole fish. The second was that the fillet was only cooked on the flesh side and the skin not cooked at all. The third was that it was cold. We called the waitress and she apologised and said she would get him another one. Meanwhile I had mine and noticed that the carrots, which were the only vegetable on offer, were very sweet and not many of them and the potatoes au gratin were not oven baked with a crispy top but a small splodge of tiny dice sized potatoes in an insipid white sauce.

The fish when it was returned was not a new one but the same one, with the bite taken out of it, had been re-heated probably in a microwave. His vegetables were the same as mine and almost inedible – you could have had the carrots as a dessert they were so sweet.

When we left a man at the door asked us if we had enjoyed our meal and we said, “No, absolutely not”. He was very apologetic and said he would tell the manager, we said not to bother but he insisted. The manager came and we relayed our experience to him. He said the vegetables were the same in all their restaurants and that the fish had been re-heated so what was our problem!

So my recommendation to anyone thinking of trying the Bone Fish Grill is – don’t, unless you like pre-packaged vegetables delivered in bags and either boiled or microwaved and fish served cold and incorrectly cooked. It is not a cheap night out either, it is one of the more expensive restaurants we usually try. If you like fish I would highly recommend The Red Lobster or even the Italian restaurant the Olive Garden which has quite a good range of fish dishes.

There are so many really good restaurants in the Orlando area it is completely pointless going to a bad one especially as the manager treats his customers with such contempt.
