Boma’s Buffet at Animal Kingdom
Disney resorts and hotels offer a whole range of dining experiences and it is difficult to choose from the wonderful choice on offer. One of the things Disney do very well is their buffet style meals and where better than to head to the beautiful Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge resort to experience an African themed buffet at Boma’s restaurant.
The resort itself is simply stunning and when you enter the lobby the scale of the place takes your breath away. You enter a huge atrium which is beautifully decorated in dark woods and rich jewel colours, African patterns and an array of textures and prints.
There are African artifacts adorning the walls, beautiful sculptures and woven tapestries. There is also a fabulous gift shop where you can find lovely carved animals, great art work and some authentic musical instruments and drums!
You can enjoy a drink in one of numerous bars and when we were there, we encountered live bands and tribal style dancers. You can even enjoy your drink sitting around an indoor camp fire with real flames. Our children really enjoyed joining in with the dancing and they were even asked to play along with the African drums and other percussions instruments.
If you arrive while it is still daylight, just going into dusk, you can go outside and see the animals who gather on the savannah plains in the hotel grounds. There is a safari guide there to talk you through the various species and you can even view the animals through night vision glasses! We saw zebra, gazelles and an assortment of very beautiful birds.
The restaurant itself is themed like an African bazaar and the buffet serves traditional African dishes as well as a few American favorites. There is an open grill where you can choose freshly carved roasts, together with numerous vegetable and salad options. Being a buffet you can go as many times as you like to the different serving stations. There is a choice of soups and dips to start with, together with pastas. Always use a fresh plate!
The staff are friendly and helpful and their uniforms are traditional tribal tunics in amazing bright colours. They really look the part. The soft drinks were included in the price of the buffet and you could finish off the evening with a vibrant cocktail in the lounge afterwards.
As with all things Disney, the meal was more of an all round evening experience than just food! We will definitely be returning.
