Boggy Creek Airboat Rides (7)
During our last visit to Orlando we decided to take an Airboat Ride. We booked Boggy Creek Airboat tickets through Online Florida Villas before we left for our holiday. The ticket prices were very competitive and considerably cheaper than purchasing them from the attraction on the day. There is no date on the ticket so you can take your ride at any time during your holiday. No reservation needed is needed and tours leave every 30 minutes. We chose Boggy Creek Airboats located at Southport Road which was no more than a 30-40 minute drive from the Disney area.
When you check in you are given a time for your trip. If you have time to kill before your trip there are baby alligators to see. When we were there we were invited to have a photograph taken with a baby alligator. We had to pay for this photograph but were assured that all profits would be put to the upkeep of the wildlife. Also if you paid for a photograph, you were then welcome to take as many as you liked of your own.
There is also an airboat on dry land where you can climb aboard for photographs.
We went on a thirty minute boat ride and have some wonderful photographs of the family in ear defenders – an absolute must as the boat is so noisy.
The first half of the ride was fairly sedate, driving slowly through the everglade swamps looking for wildlife and taking in the scenery. We saw an alligator sitting on some eggs who became very protective when being pointed out by our boat captain using a very long oar. We were also shown other wildlife, particularly birds such as herons, osprey and cranes.
The second part of the ride was a little faster with the boat skimming across the surface of the water at speeds up to 45 mph while shooting between walls of tall grass. There were several twists and turns sending up spray so expect to get a little wet, it is a water ride after all.
After you ride there is a small shop where you can purchase souvenirs of your trip. The shop also sells drinks and ice creams, very welcome after 30 minutes on the water.
Overall this was a very enjoyable experience and a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. If you do have some spare time during your time in Florida this attraction would be highly recommended.
