Boats at Walt Disney World
When guests think of Walt Disney World, almost certainly one of the attractions they are unlikely to immediately consider is the many boats that operate on the lagoons, lakes, canals and World Showcase.
One of the benefits of a vacation at Walt Disney World is the ease with which it is possible to travel between the various parks. Very often guests will choose to travel on the resort monorails or buses, forgetting that a swift and pleasant alternative is a boat ride – more particularly on a hot and humid day!
A particularly pleasant trip is to take the water launch from the Magic Kingdom Park, calling at the Grand Floridian Hotel, the Polynesian Resort and on to Disney’s Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. The actual trip takes approximately thirty minutes and of course there is no need to leave your seat at any point. If you wish, you can return back to the Magic Kingdom by taking a round trip.
Another possibility is to take the “Friendship” launches from EPCOT to the Disney Hollywood Studios. This fun trip starts at EPCOT calling at the Yacht and Beach Club, Boardwalk, the Swan and Dolphin hotels and then Hollywood Studios. Again total travelling time is around thirty minutes and this time the boat is air-conditioned (although you may wish to sit at the back of the boat in the open air)!
Although the return boat trip may be your preferred route, providing that it is not too hot, guests can return alongside the canal joining the Disney Hollywood Studios and Boardwalk.
If a trip on an old time riverboat is your desire, then guests arriving at the Magic Kingdom Ticket and Transportation Centre can take one of the Magic Kingdom ferries across the Seven Seas Lagoon. Very often this can be a quicker route than queuing for the monorails, particularly when the park closes each evening.
Even Downtown Disney is well served for free boat transportation. Here you can join the Sassagoula River Steamboat ferrying passengers to Disney’s Port Orleans and Disney’s Old Key West Resorts. If you would prefer not to be piloted by a Disney captain, then pontoon craft can be hired at the same location and you are then free to explore the Sassagoula River under your own power.
Finally, if you become tired when walking around Epcot’s World Showcase, then you are able to travel by boat from the American Adventure to Germany. The air-conditioned boat is more than welcome on a very hot day!
