Blizzard Beach (1)
The years that we stay for three weeks or more at our villa we usually buy Annual tickets for Blizzard Beach. We find that if you intend visiting the Park more than three times this is the most economical ticket to buy.
Having this ticket also allows us the luxury of not having to queue when the Park opens in order to get a full day in because we have the luxury of being able to go as many times as we like and often go for just a few hours at a time.
When we do this we usually go mid afternoon (the Park usually does not close until 8. 00pm in peak summer months) and often the crowds are thinning out ready for their evening at the other Disney Parks.
On these occasions we usually head for a few of our favourite activities. We all love the Downhill Double Dipper where two go side-by-side aboard an inner tube on 50 feet high racing slides that have you traveling at speeds up to 25 mph racing against your partner.
However, rightly so, children have to be 48” tall to ride, but you must make sure they can swim because the water at the bottom is 54” deep.
Then onto Runoff Rapids which is a tube ride consisting of 3 different twisting and turning 600-foot slides. There are 2 open slides that allow double tubes, and a totally enclosed dark slide where you can take a single tube. The enclosed slide is like a water slide version of Space Mountain and is a must do for those who like thrills although not all of our family are comfortable with this.
The single-tube line is the most popular and the wait can be quite long at busy periods.
All the tubes are picked up at the bottom of the slide and then you carry them up the mountain. Although there is no height requirement for this slide, a child must be able to sit properly in a tube while holding both handles. Make sure of this before you climb all the way to the top. The double tube allows the parent to sit behind the child. The water at the bottom is just less than 4 feet.
If we are feeling energetic we go to the Chair Lift. This is a real Chair Lift that provides a one way trip to the top of the mountain, where if you wish you have access to further slides. The Chair Lift has skis attached to it as though it is transporting skiers to the top and it gives you great views all over the Park. We usually just get the chair lift to the top and then walk back down. If the wait is long you can try the single line which usually moves quicker. Children have to be 32” tall to ride.
We always finish our visit by going to Cross Country Creek. You just go to one of the landing stages grab yourself an inner tube and enjoy leisurely floating along the 3, 000-foot creek that goes around Blizzard Beach. If you go completely round it will take you about 30 minutes just letting the tube float.
If you do not want to use an inner tube you can walk or swim. However you need to be prepared for dripping ice water when you pass through the ice cave, and a few other surprising water features. This is a great way to end your visit.
