Birthdays at Disney
While at Disney World there are lots of ways to make a little one feel special if it is their birthday whilst you are on holiday. To make the most of it though, TELL EVERYONE! And the cast members will do something for them.
First make sure you go to City Hall in the Magic Kingdom and tell them it’s their birthday and they will be given a badge saying “Today’s My Birthday” which they must wear for the day. (If you are in Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios or Epcot go to Guest Services to get their badge). You will find that lots of cast members will wish them Happy Birthday and they will get heaps of attention from the characters. Be sure to take an autograph book as they character often write special Happy Birthday messages. In Epcot if you tell a cast member in each country it is a birthday, they will write Happy Birthday in their language in the autograph books. Some cast members will let the little ones jump queues too! And stop and sing Happy Birthday to them. Make sure the birthday girl/boy stands right at the front during parades, the characters will make a bee-line for them.
Always tell your server when you are dining and they will bring a little cake/ice-cream complete with Mickey Sprinkles out for desert with a candle in and the Celebration song is played and all the servers (and diners!) sing Happy Birthday. You can call the character meal venues in advance and ask to arrange this or even ask them to prepare a full birthday cake although as a cheaper option decorated cakes are available through the Gooding’s Bakery located at Crossroads, call 407-827-1200 and many Publix supermarkets have fabulous cakes for sale – lots of cream! So if you can “sneak” this to a server as soon as you arrive they will bring it out for you – also if you have a present and tell them who the child’s favourite character is, the character will bring that out to them.
You can arrange a birthday meal at any of the hotels (you don’t then have to pay admission to the parks) and if you ring a week or so in advance and tell them it is a birthday celebration they decorate the table with Balloons and make a real fuss of the birthday girl/boy.
My daughter’s 13th birthday is this year and she wants to go to Seaworld – so I have booked the hour you spend at Dolphin Nursery for $50 – it’s a surprise but I think we will do a character breakfast to start the day.
Just be sure to tell everyone it is their birthday and it will make their day special.
