Best Time to visit Florida
When to visit Florida is very often determined by your childrens school holidays, however if that is not an issue then these tips should help you pick the best time to visit.
To avoid the crowds on your Florida holiday, beware of peak seasons. During certain high-volume months and especially during school holidays – theme park and restaurant capacity, as well as heavy traffic, can delay you and your family’s activities.
The highest peak time is Easter. At this time the weather is just about perfect. So, if you can travel just before or just after Easter you will have a very quiet holiday with little crowds and heavy traffic and the weather will be at its best. The hurricane season starts in June and goes on until the end of August. During that time, the weather will be very humid so the showers every day are actually very welcome to clear the air and they usually do not last very long. You can easily tell when it is about to rain: the wind will pick up and you will have about 5 minutes then to find shelter – hopefully in the nearest café or restaurant.
In the southern region of the state, winter is peak season. In the northern region, where temperatures are less extreme, the summer is peak. Of course, holidays are the most crowded in any tourist area, with theme parks and beaches at full capacity.
The time to travel in Florida is the in-between months – April and May, September, October and November. Temperatures tend to be more manageable, as well as prices being lower for both accommodation and air fares. However, do remember the English school half term holidays are at the end of October so it would be best to avoid the last 2 weeks in October or the last week in October and the first week in November.
The Americans of course make a big thing of Thanksgiving day and most American schools have the whole week off. Thanksgiving falls on the last Thursday in November so it is best to avoid the parks from the Thanksgiving day to the Saturday after and the Friday after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday due to the stores in America having their biggest sale of the year – much like our Boxing Day sales. So do avoid the stores on that Friday. Christmas is a very special peak season too and will be pretty busy although the weather could turn a bit chilly then.
January to March is a good time to go when you can expect the temperature highs to be in the mid-70s. However in the last few years it has been known to have very heavy frosts during the night and in the early mornings from November to the end of February. During the day however, it is still warm and very pleasant. Just make sure you take a warm jacket for the evening if you are planning to stay out late.
Remember that Florida is one of the country’s most popular destinations so always book early no matter what time of year.
