Behind the scene tours of Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom
If you’ve been to Orlando many times or you are looking for something a bit different why not try one of Magic Kingdom’s special tours. To do one of these you will need to purchase an entry ticket and then pay for the tour in addition but it will give you a new perspective (and appreciation! ) of what goes on. These tours may include a lot of walking – inside and outside - so be prepared to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for Florida’s liquid sunshine !
These tours of the Magic Kingdom give you lots of interesting information and background titbits. The tour size is quite small and you can do this on your own or with family members. Mickey’s Magical Milestones –is a two hour tour giving the history of Magic Kingdom. You’ll hear about the day it opened, how much the entrance cost, which attractions were opened and when new ones were built. This tour starts at City Hall and finishes at PhilharMagic whilst including a ride to Mickey’s Toontown before Magic Kingdom opens – always a special experience.
The Steam Trains Tour is a three hour tour of the trains used at Magic Kingdom. This starts before the park opens and you accompany the engineers as they prepare the trains for the day’s service. Walt Disney was fascinated by trains and wanted them to be a main feature of Magic Kingdom.
If you are travelling with young guests and want to surprise them with a very special memory of their trip to Magic Kingdom try the two and a half hour Family Magic Tour. This is a Magic Kingdom scavenger hunt enjoyed by children. You’ll become a detective searching for clues whilst learning much about the Magic Kingdom in the meantime.
One of the most popular tours is Keys to the Kingdom. This tour takes you below the Magic Kingdom into the tunnels, learning lots of secrets as well as history – sorry I can’t share these with you as Mickey swore me to secrecy! This tour includes lunch.
If you’d like to do one of these tours call 1-407-WDW-Tour (1-407-939-8687) on weekdays (8am – 5pm) for up to date costs. You will need to pay for admission to the park in addition to the price of the special tours. They are very popular so reserve a space in advance and you will need to pay at the time of booking, usually by credit card. Check the age (as this may be subject to change) of those allowed on the tours at the time of booking – for some you have to be 16 years. If you cancel a tour there is a 48 hour cancellation policy for a full refund. And when you arrive for your tour remember to bring a Photo ID. Sadly, but for obvious reasons, no photos are allowed backstage!
